Indy the Greyhound impressed the folks at Delta Society/Pet Therapy of Orange County on 2/18/06 with an impressive performance during his final evaluation. HIGH FIVE paws and many THANKS to Wags and Wiggles for providing the basic obedience and Canine Good Citizen classes Indy attended which set the foundation for his success.
Indy and his handler Carrie, look forward to providing love and enlightenment to our community members in hospitals and nursing homes here in Orange County who need a lift of their spirits.
Pet Therapy is an awesome program that brings smiles and warmth to our community via the supervised interaction with our fine canine friends. The staff at Wags and Wiggles have been crucial in helping socialize Indy with other Wags clients, and transitioning him from a race track dog to a therapy dog. Special thanks to Lysa for all her support during our classes.
Big therapy hugs from…
Carrie Harden & Indy
CANINE GOOD CITIZEN
TRAINING
CANINE GOOD CITIZEN is a program designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community.
The Canine Good Citizen Program (CGC) is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club (AKC). In a little over one decade, the Canine Good Citizen Program has begun to have an extremely positive impact in many of our communities. This is a program that can help us assure that the dogs we love will always be welcomed and well-respected members of our communities.
All dogs, including both purebred and mixed breed dogs are welcome to participate in the CGC program. There is no age limit for the CGC test. A dog is never too old to be a good citizen.
Many dog owners complete CGC training and testing as a prerequisite to therapy dog certification.
Class is a series of 5 classes with the test being held on the 5th class. The first four weeks are preparation for the test.
AKC will issue your official certification upon completion and passing of the test.
Test components are as follows: Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger. Test 2: Sitting politely for petting. Test 3: Appearance and grooming. Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead). Test 5: Walking through a crowd. Test 6: Sit and down on command and staying in place. Test 7: Coming when called. Test 8: Reaction to another dog. Test 9: Reaction to distraction. Test 10: Supervised separation.
Prerequisite: Any Wags & Wiggles obedience class or dog must already have had some basic training.
Cost: $165/5 classes includes test.
Cost: $30/test only - for students who feel they are ready without the class.
CGC Test is given at the end of 5 week class. Other students are welcome to take the test without the class at a fee of $30.
